The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform soon, and audience theories has been widespread.
The first season presents a diverse group of characters residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented recently. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
