Two Detentions Following Heathrow Irritant Spray Incident

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
This incident caused the temporary closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking area.

An additional two individuals are now in custody in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people sustained injuries by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, according to police.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area for suspected theft and assault and a woman, 23 was detained on suspicion of conspiring to commit a robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, authorities confirmed.

These detentions follow a probe into an assault at the multi-level parking garage at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Before the attack, two women were robbed of their suitcases after getting out of a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was one of the injured during the incident. A total of five individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

Officers arrested a man in his thirties on suspicion of theft and assault close to the scene. He has since been released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.

Police were called at about 8:10 in the morning GMT following reports of a number of people injured by an irritating chemical believed to be an irritant spray.

The assault - which police said was isolated and not being treated as an act of terror - resulted in train delays and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park for a short time.
